"Critical Insights Series: Shaping the Future with Open Access Journals"

Updated: Sep 16

Taylor & Francis has launched the Critical Insights series, a forward-thinking collection of selective open access journals designed to address complex global issues. Each journal is led by experts who provide high-quality editorial support to authors throughout the publishing process. Critical Insights journals promote innovative ideas by including “Critical Insights summaries” with each article, highlighting how it contributes to the direction of its field. These journals will offer fast desk decisions, constructive peer reviews, and high production values. The first four journals will cover aquaculture, climate change, environmental science, and geophysics, with further titles launching in 2025.

Graeme Swindles, Editor-in-Chief of Critical Insights in Climate Change, emphasized the need for a platform that showcases only the most impactful climate research. He highlighted the journal’s role as essential reading for researchers, policymakers, and those involved in addressing climate-related issues. Similarly, Albert Tacon, Editor-in-Chief of Critical Insights in Aquaculture, stressed the journal's focus on critical challenges facing the aquaculture industry today, aiming to improve sustainability across environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

In terms of support, the journals will offer dedicated publishing staff and optimized systems that ensure authors receive quick desk decisions, detailed peer reviews, and high-quality production for their work. Each article will also include figures and images that can be reused, increasing the accessibility and impact of the research.
